Sugar (sucrose)

A study released by scientists at UCLA have found that a diet high in fructose can reduce the ability to learn and recall information in rats.  I have no doubt this also affects human brains as well.  This includes cane sugar (which is sucrose) and high fructose corn syrup.  These are usually added to processed foods, sodas, baby food, etc.  For students who are trying to stay awake to study for their mid-terms and finals and consuming large quantities of fructose, this can make it even harder to learn and remember.  However, by consuming DHA (Omega-3) such as walnuts, flax seed, and salmon  or supplements, it can help minimize the damage.  For more on this read the article below…

High Fructose Corn Syrup Makes You Stupid, Says New Study

Study researcher Fernando Gomez-Pinilla, of the University of California, Los Angeles, said, “The brain cells had trouble signaling each other, disrupting the rat’s ability to think clearly and recall the route they’d learned six weeks earlier. We’re concerned about high-fructose corn syrup that is added “Our findings illustrate that what you eat affects how you think. Eating a high-fructose diet over the long term alters your brain’s ability to learn and remember information.
